Having a background both in the natural and the social sciences, my major interests in research and teaching as an environmental
scientist are related to the interaction of humans and the environment in a systems understanding - everything is connected to everything. More specific, I am interested
in sustainable development from a managing perspective in a trandisciplinary understanding, focusing on topics such as
Ecological economics - change our current economic model towards true sustainabillity [eco-entrepreneurship, carbon free economy, behavioral change]
Environmental governance and policy - market based instruments to improve environmental governance [network analysis, stakeholder approach]
Global environmental change - assess and manage vulnerability to environmental change [adaptation, mitigation, complexity, uncertainty]
Industrial ecology - designing sustainable products and processes [virtual technology, life cycle assessment, consumer demand]
Sustainable architecture - holistic approach to buildings [materials, design, renewable energy, usage performance]
Metrics and quantification of sustainability - quantifiing sustainability regarding the
use of natural resources, ecosystem services and biodiversity [footprint analysis, metrics, indicators]
Sustainability in higher education - communicate, teach and train the concept of sustainability [embedded case study methods, meta cognitive learnig]
