Having a background both in the natural and the social sciences, my major research interests as a sustainability scientist are related to the interaction of humans and the environment in a systems understanding - everything is connected to everything. More specific, I am interested in sustainable development from a theoretical and an applied perspective in a trandisciplinary understanding. My research focuses on developing a deeper understanding for interrelations within ecological-economical-social systems, how their resilience is affected by global environmental change and how policy and management strategies can balance such systems, applying both quantitative and qualitative methods. I have a strong interest in the spatial aspects of human-environment relations, including field work and embedded case studies.

Key words: human-environment systems, network analysis, social and industrial ecology, ecological economics, global environmental change, environmental governance

Main research fields
Modelling socio-ecological-economic systems to develop a dynamic quantified network model
Resilience of socio-ecological-economic systems to global environmental change
Integrated assessment and quantification of sustainability
Ecological economics: qualitative economic growth, low carbon economy
Industrial ecology: holistic socio-ecologic product and process design
Social ecology and behavioral change: knowledge, awareness building and sustainable consumption, communication of sustainability
