Tobias Luthe

Having a background both in the natural and the social sciences, my major research interests as an environmental scientist are related to the interaction of humans and the environment in a systems understanding - everything is connected to everything. More specific, I am interested in sustainable development from a theoretical and a managing or policy perspective in a trandisciplinary understanding. My research focuses on developing a deeper understanding for interrelations within ecological-economical-social systems, how their vulnerability is affected by global environmental change and how policy and management strategies can balance such systems.

Key words: Systems dynamics, ecological economics, global environmental change, environmental governance, transdisciplinary sustainability sciences, communication

Main research fields
Modelling ecological-economical-social systems: developing dynamic quantified network models
Assessment and evaluation of sustainability
Vulnerability to global environmental change: assessment, mitigation and adaptation to climate change
Developing qualitative economic growth models: eco-entrepreneurship, low carbon economy and CSR
Industrial ecology: holistic socio-ecologic product and process design
Behavioral change: knowledge, awareness and sustainable consumption; communication of sustainability

Current research projects
Socio-economic-ecologic networks on Svalbard and a sustainable qualitative growth model in adapting and mitigating to global environmental change
Adaptation and mitigation to climate change in tourism: quantification, management and communication of a low carbon economy for a climate neutral destination
Ecological footprint accounting and extended environmental input-ouput assessment applied to tourism.
